Unlike WJAR and WEAN, WBBQ was not associated with a Rhode Island department store. WBBQ was owened by car dealership owner Frank Crook.

However, like WJAR, the operation of the station was done by Thomas P Giblin. Giblin also served as the announced on the first night of operation, February 11th, 1924.
