Charles N Kraus was born January 5, 1907¹ to Charles A (Chemist) and Federika F Kraus². In 1920, Charles's father has remarried to Elizabeth and had a step brother Philip and a step brother Douglas³. In 1940, Charles is listed at owning a Electircal Store⁴

In 1926 we see that Charles is a boy scout and well on his way to a life in radio by the merit badges he is getting.

In 1927, Kraus is a recruit with the Forty-Third Signal Company of the Rhode Island National Guard. He obtains some outstanding distance records with the guards station D08. He carried on consitant comunication with The Presidio in San Francisco.

1928 finds Kraus picking up signals from the Italian military airship, Italia.

Kraus radioed Artic Explorer, McMillan and informed him of the plight of the air ship Italia. Havng crashed in 1928.
